Hi everyone,

Have you noticed how positivity has become the new currency for all emotional exchanges across the world?

Think positive!… Dream positive!… Be positive!… but not Corona positive!☺️

We’ve all started placing so much premium on positivity that it’s almost a crime to have or feel any kind of negative emotion!

Well, there’s no denying that positivity is a huge asset … but there’s also no denying that it’s only one side of the emotional coin. The other side of the coin is negativity.

Come to think of it… most of the basic human emotions have a negative undercurrent. Look at anger, anticipation, anxiety, disappointment, despair, disgust, fear, frustration, guilt, sadness, shame, surprise…

But guess what! Negative emotions (let’s call them NEGS!) are not all THAT negative. In fact sometimes they actually serve a POSITIVE purpose… because they provide release, they build resilience, they inspire action.

What happens when you get really mad? You take positive action to set the situation right. What happens when you lose a job? You upgrade your skills and augment your CV. What happens when a loved one needs care? You get into fire-fighting mode and your empathy meter gets better calibrated.

NEGS create a fire in your belly. They motivate you to be productive, to solve problems, to stand up for what you believe in… and to gain back your personal power.

The best part is they add more depth, density and layers to your personality and allow you to live more completely and wholeheartedly.

Do you think you can appreciate the joy of happiness if you’ve never suffered the pain of sadness?… or feel the kick of elation if you’ve never felt the pang of frustration?… or enjoy spending money if you’ve never experienced being broke?

Life is going to be difficult, challenging, and incredibly hard sometimes… especially now, during this re-lockdown.

The renewed uncertainty and the frustration caused is bound to lead to uncomfortable or negative emotions in even the most stoic and positive-minded among us.

It might help if we learn to acknowledge these emotions and not sweep them under the carpet… because acknowledging our NEGS allows us to release the feeling and move forward. The bottom line is… feel these emotions but don’t let them become you! Let your mind go crazy but always listen to your inner GPS.

Meanwhile… it might be worthwhile to use this re-quarantine (thrust upon us) for some kind of self-improvement… may be learn a new language, do a new online course, pick up a new hobby, read more books, improve our communication skills… anything that helps build our skill sets and our resilience… because let’s face it… these are two things no one can take away from us. They will equip us to cope better with the fluid circumstances.

Wishing you all a safe and productive quarantine period… 🌸☀️
